Inspiration and The Arts * Mythology Research




Gods/Goddesses/Demigods
* Apollo - Greek god of intellect, the arts, healing and light. Son of Zeus and Leto. (DM.25) Another aspect for Apollo is "Phoebus" meaning "shining." (DM.214)
* Bragi - Norse god of poetrySon of giantess Gumlod. adopted by Odin. Married to Idunn, the goddess who kept the apples of youth. (DM.45)
* Hephaestus - (greek) god of crafts and builder of god's lalaces. Son of Zeus and Hera. Huband of Aphrodite. The volcanoes were chimneys to his smithies. Identified with the roman god Vulcan. (UNKNOWN, possible DM?)
* Muses - 9 daughters of Zeus and (Memory) Mnemosyne. Given the assignment of inspiration later in development. (DM178)
The muses are:
---* Calliope (epic poetry) - the mother of Orpheus
---* Clio (history)
---* Euterpe (flute and Dionysiac music)
---* Erato (lyric poetry, hymns and erotic poetry)
---* Melpomene (Tragedy)
---* Polyhymnia (solemn hymn and religious dance)
---* Terpsichore (dance and lyric poetry)
---* Thalia (comedy) (also one of the graces, and a nereid... just by name?)
---* Urania (Astrology)
* Ptah - Egyptian chief of gods. Represented in human form. Always with an Ankh - representing life and generative, creative foces. Sometimes a smith god. (DM.222.223)
* Vulcan (Roman) (see Hephestus)


Places, Geographical Elements
* Helicon - sacred mountain of the muses. (see hippocrene - fountain)(DM.120)
* Parnassus - Twin peaked mountain, sacred to the muses, expecially of poetry. one of the peaks was sacred to Apollo, the other to Dionysus. (2 possible heights of inspiration...) (DM.205). At the foot of Parnassus was the Castalia - fountain of inspiration (see castalia) (DM.52)


Symbols and Objects
* Alcohol - linked with creativity and wisdom. (DSYMB.11)
* Castalia - a spring or fountain at the foot of Parnassus - sacred to the muses. The priestess of the Delphic oracle bathed/drank from it for inspiration. (DM.52)
* Dragons Eye - (tripple triangle, like zelda triforce) - one of the goddess's 9 fold forms is the MUSES. (or 9 Morgans) (WDS.35)
* Hippocrene - a fountain of poetic inspiration, its source from the mountain Helicon. (DM.120)
* Star of Muses (9 pointed triangle stars) - the 9 muses inspired powers of speech and poetry. inspiration means breathing in, originally 3 aspects of memory (Mnemosyne) (WDS.76) (see memory)
