Gods/Goddesses/Demigods
* Apollo - is often associated with Helios, but he is more the sun's light - brightness and healing power. (DM.121)
* Arianna - "queen of heaven and earth" Also known as Hebat or Hepat, the consort to the sun god. Later in biblican tradition becoming Hebe, Eveh or Eve.(WDS.14)
* Azazel or Aziz-El - "The strong one" - older sun god - recieved Hebrews' scapegoat sacrifices.(WDS.15)
* Azeus (Boeotia) or Azon (Syria) - Semitic sun god.(WDS.15)
* Balder - most beautiful of the Norse gods - thought to be the personification of the sun. (DM.41)
* Cain - Early Gnostic literature - the sun deity or his earthly representative was identified with Cain, who was named a god, the 6th of the great Aeons whom men call the sun. (WDS.15)
* Dirt Boy - in Okanagon N.Amer. story - sun and star go to earth, sun disguized as a dirty boy with sore eyes. He marries a kind woman - when he transforms back, he 'became a young handsome man of light complexion - his cloths were covered with shining copper - his hair reached to the ground and shone like rays of the sun" (TNAMER.124)
* Estan - (among Hittites) Sun goddess. later became male god "Istanu". (WDS.14)
* Helios - the Greek sun god. (Roman=Sol) - sometimes "Hyperion" (or is the son of Hyperion the titan) - drove a chariot across the heavens daily east to west. Represents the sun in its daily course. (DM.120)
* Hemera - personification of Day. Daughter of Erebus and Night. Sister to Aether. (air) (DM.121)
* Horus - Egyptian sun god. Also light. Has many names. Fights with Set, the god of darkness and evil. (DM.130)
* Istanu (see Estan)
* Nanahuatzin 'the most humble, the purulent one' - The gods met at Teotihuacan to decide who would be sacrificed to be the new sun (the 5th) and bring ligt to the new world. Nanahuatzin, the humble purulent one cast himself into the flames to become the sun. But the heavenly bodies did not move so all the gods sacrificed themselves for mankind. (MEX.91,92)
* Norse sun goddess named "glory of the elves" will dissappear at the end of the world, but will give birth to daughter sun who will illuminate the next world. (WDS.15)
* Odin - one of his eyes (the only one he still has) is the sun. (DM.190)
* Osiris-Ra - Egyptian - represented by the winged sun-disk. He also died each day to enter the womb of the great mother and be reborn from her eastern 'gate' each morning. (WDS.14)
* RA - Egyptian sun god, and one of the supreme deities. Seen as a falcon or a bearded man with a solar disk. Symbols are the falcon, scarab, and dung beetle. (DM.226)
* Sol - Roman sun god. (DM.120)


Creatures/Beings/People
* Arel - angel invoked in ritual magic using a sun symbol. The name inscribed on the 7th pentacle of the sun. (ANGEL.21)
* Bennu - see phoenix
* Clytie or Kleite - see sunflower
* Horse - Helios had 4 firey steeds which to draw the chariot. (WDS.62)
* Phoenix - Greek name for the Egyptian bird "Bennu" - symbol of the rising sun. Only one of its kind. Life span of 500 years at a time. Puts self on funeral pyre and out of its ashes grow a new phoenix. (DM.215)


Plants and Minerals
* Amber - color links with solar energy. the word amber in ancient china is literally 'tiger-soul' - the remains of tigers formed resin = courage. (DSYMB.12)
* Lotus - In Egypt, the sun god was born from the great goddess - the lotus - at his first rising. (WDS.429)
* Sunflower - loved the sun (as a nymph) and followed the sun with her face. Called "Clytie"or "Kleite" = "famous one" by the greeks. This is also the origin for the word 'clitoris' (began with symbols of divine marriage between father heaven and mother earth) (WDS.435)


Symbols
* Black Sun - represents the dark, underworld gods, but also to some, it is a 'secret, wiser version of the solar god, who knew the nether world as well as he knew the heavens.' (WDS.4) (see death,dark)
* Circle (with dot in center) - old symbol of the 'primal womb containing the spark of creation" - referencing sun goddesses. (WDS.14)
* Copic cross (small circle, 4 lines u,d,l,r extending from it) - originally sun sign. 'heavenly orb at the center of heaven, supported by 4 pillars to uphold the sky in 4 directions. (WDS.39)
* Cross Potent - Ancient Mesopotamian symbol of the sky or sun god. (WDS.39) (see sky)
* Lens - a theory tells how the sun symbol circle with a dot in the center may refer to the circular lense used to start a fire. Ancient times this was known as 'drawing down the sun' or 'fire from heaven' Alter fires often started this way, especially for sacrificial victims to be devoured by the 'fire from the lord'. * 3 Rayed Sun - (looks like circle with 3 nail heads) - sun suspended by 3 powers - tripple goddess, or un Biblical times 'women clothed with the sun' (WDS.39)
* Sigel (rune S, more angular) - celtic or teutonic tribe varient - meaning SUN. (WDS.152)
* 6 sided Star - In the new world - found in Uxmal and Yucatan "sun shedding its rays on the earth." (WDS.69) (see fertility and lust)
* Winged Sun Disk - Many variants - crried on the hawk wings of Horus. Surmounted by horns of ram god Amon. Primary symbol of the chief of heaven god - at sunrise "he is risen". (WDS.113)
* Woton's cross - used as an earth symbol, conjunction of male and female bur also seen as the sun embraced bt the round of heaven - sun cross. (WDS.64)
